Airgain Announces Development of 802.11ax Technology

Airgain collaborating to bring first IEEE 802.11ax products to launch in 2019

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Airgain, Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRG), a leading provider of advanced antenna technologies used to enable high performance wireless networking across a broad range of devices and markets, including connected home, enterprise, automotive, and Internet of Things (IoT), today announced it is actively engaged in the development of IEEE 802.11ax Over-the-Air (OTA) optimized reference designs for multiple tier 1 and tier 2 vendors of 802.11ax chipsets. It also confirmed it is in the performance verification phase of multiple commercial programs with leading service providers of 802.11ax gateways that expect to be the first of its kind to launch in 2019.

802.11ax is the next evolution in Wi-Fi standards, with the potential for up to 40% greater data rates, up to four times improved throughput per user in dense environments, increased network efficiency, and extended battery life of client devices compared to today’s 802.11ac enabled Wi-Fi.

An industry leader in OTA performance optimized embedded Wi-Fi systems, Airgain utilizes industry standard measurement tools and a proprietary implementation of the IEEE 802.11.2 draft recommended practice for the evaluation and optimization of 802.11 based Wireless systems. Airgain leveraged its extensive engineering expertise and testing environments to design an 802.11ax optimized antenna system that works seamlessly with the manufacturer’s chipset and access point reference designs.

We believe Airgain’s proprietary OTA testing process has established the company as a leader in wireless throughput testing. In accordance with its reputation as an industry leader in performance optimized Wi-Fi systems, Airgain has developed antenna systems and optimized OTA test methodology specifically tailored to enabling and verifying the full potential of 802.11ax 8x8 MU-MIMO enabled systems.

Ricky Chair, Airgain’s Technical Marketing Director, said: “Through working with our chipset partners, we believe our early involvement in 802.11ax has put Airgain at the forefront of 802.11ax embedded antenna system development. We are very excited by the potential of this new technology, and we look forward to leveraging our 802.11ax experience to help our customers accelerate their transitions to 802.11ax support in their next product refresh cycles.”

Airgain will be attending Computex 2018, held June 5-9 in Taipei, Taiwan. Airgain will be hosting meetings at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. Contact Airgain at info@airgain.com to request a meeting.
